Earth Day Hijacked

Last week while my husband was working on our sprinkler system he pulled what he thought was a weed out of one of our flower beds. To our surprise it was a baby tree budding from an acorn. The kids got really excited and we all decided to plant it on Earth Day since it was only a few days away. We went and got a new planter and some soil for the little tree bud.
Both the kids where super careful and gentle with the little tree as they planted it. Then they sat it on our back porch so they could see it from the family room. My son even called out good night to it as he went off to bed that night.
The next morning after taking the kids to school I made my rounds of doing the daily watering. As I made my way to the back porch I discovered the top part of the baby tree lying on the ground. The rest of it was missing and there was just an empty hole in the dirt where the acorn had been planted. An evil squirrel had eaten our family tree. The same evil squirrel that is always staring at me while I work. I have a picture to prove it.
Luckily my husband found another baby tree growing behind some bushes before the kids got home from school. We planted the new baby tree on Arbor Day. It is safely hidden on the front porch now.
Happy Earth Arbor Day!

How would you like it if the poor little squirrel plucked a pot-roast from your fridge and planted it someplace to see if it would grow?
Quick stealing his food and he may not be so “evil”.
;-D
Apparently, “you snooze, you lose” went for the both of us.
I am so glad you posted this. I was in stitches. I’ve seen this evil squirrel first hand.
I also have my own squirrel nemesis! http://www.flickr.com/photos/nathanholman/97787560/
